Ingredients

Scale

Ground Beef Mixture

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (85/15)
  • 1/2 yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup hamburger pickles, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon coarse ground pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

McDonald’s Secret Sauce

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup French dressing
  • 2 tablespoons sweet relish
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

To Assemble (Double Decker)

  • 8 hamburger buns (with seeds)
  • 2 cups iceberg lettuce, shredded
  • 12 hamburger pickle chips
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • Additional secret sauce, optional

Instructions

  1. Brown the Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and brown your ground beef halfway for about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add Aromatics and Seasoning: Add the finely chopped yellow onions, kosher salt, coarse ground pepper, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet. Continue cooking until the beef is fully browned, about another 3-4 minutes.
  3. Incorporate Pickles: Stir in the chopped hamburger pickles, mixing well with the beef mixture.
  4. Prepare the Secret Sauce: In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet relish, ketchup, white vinegar, onion powder, and salt. Stir until well blended.
  5. Add Sauce to Beef: Pour 1 cup of the secret sauce into the beef mixture and stir. Cook for an additional 1 minute to heat through and combine flavors.
  6. Assemble the Double Decker: Toast the seeded hamburger buns lightly. On the bottom bun, spread a layer of secret sauce, followed by some shredded iceberg lettuce, a portion of the beef mixture, and a pickle chip. Add the middle bun, then repeat the layers with sauce, lettuce, beef, pickle, and place a slice of American cheese on top before closing with the top bun. Optionally, add additional secret sauce to your taste.

Notes

  • The stacked order for the double-decker is bottom bun, secret sauce, lettuce, beef, pickles, middle bun, secret sauce, lettuce, beef, pickles, American cheese, top bun.
  • For best flavor, allow the secret sauce to chill for at least 30 minutes before assembling.
  • You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef for a leaner option.
  • Toast buns lightly to prevent sogginess and add a nice crispy texture.
  • Additional secret sauce can be served on the side for dipping or extra spread.
