Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Mixture

  • 2 large chicken breasts, thinly sliced – The key to a tender, juicy sandwich.
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced – Caramelized for extra flavor.
  • 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional) – Adds a slight crunch.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced – Enhances the overall taste.
  • 1 tbsp olive oil – For sautéing.
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce – Adds a deep, umami flavor.
  • ½ tsp salt – Enhances all the flavors.
  • ½ tsp black pepper – A little kick.
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika – Adds warmth and depth.

Cheese & Bread

  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or mozzarella/cheddar) – Melts beautifully.
  • 2 hoagie rolls or sub rolls – The perfect base for this sandwich.
  • 1 tbsp butter – For toasting the rolls.

Instructions

  1. Sauté the Onions & Peppers: Heat ½ tbsp olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and green bell peppers. Sauté for about 5 minutes until they become soft and caramelized. Remove the sautéed vegetables from the pan and set them aside.
  2. Cook the Chicken: In the same pan, add the remaining ½ tbsp olive oil. Add the thinly sliced chicken breasts along with the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Cook the chicken while stirring occasionally for 6 to 8 minutes until fully cooked through and slightly browned.
  3. Melt the Cheese: Lower the heat and return the caramelized onions and peppers to the pan with the cooked chicken. Layer the slices of provolone cheese on top of the mixture, cover the pan, and let it sit for 1 to 2 minutes until the cheese melts completely.
  4. Toast the Rolls: Butter the inside of the hoagie or sub rolls. In a separate pan, toast the buttered rolls for about 2 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and crisp.
  5. Assemble & Serve: Fill each toasted roll with a generous portion of the cheesy chicken mixture. Serve the sandwich hot, paired perfectly with fries, chips, or a fresh side salad. Enjoy your delicious Chicken Cheese Steak Sandwiches!

Notes

  • For an extra twist, add mushrooms or jalapeños when sautéing the onions and peppers.
  • Use mozzarella or cheddar cheese instead of provolone for different flavors.
  • Make sure to slice the chicken thinly to maintain tenderness and quick cooking time.
  • Toast the rolls just before serving to keep them crispy and warm.
  • For a lower-fat option, use cooking spray instead of olive oil and low-fat cheese.
