Crispy Spicy Salmon Bites are a delightful appetizer featuring tender salmon cubes seasoned with a smoky spice blend, pan-fried to golden crispiness, and paired with a creamy, tangy, and spicy sauce made from mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili, sriracha, honey, and lime juice. Perfect for a quick snack or party platter.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Salmon:

  • 1 pound salmon fillets, skin removed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Spicy Sauce:

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • ½ teaspoon lime juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Salmon: Cut the salmon fillets into 1-inch cubes, removing any remaining skin or bones. Pat the salmon pieces completely dry with paper towels – this is crucial for achieving that perfect crispy exterior.
  2. Season the Salmon: In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper. Add the salmon cubes and gently toss until every piece is evenly coated with the spice mixture.
  3. Make the Spicy Sauce: While the salmon marinates, whisk together the mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, and lime juice in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the heat level by adding more sriracha if desired. Set aside.
  4. Cook the Salmon: Heat a large skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned salmon cubes in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy on the outside and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C).
  5. Serve: Transfer the crispy salmon bites to a serving plate and drizzle with the spicy sauce or serve the sauce on the side for dipping. Garnish with chopped green onions, sesame seeds, or fresh cilantro if desired.

Notes

  • Patting the salmon completely dry before seasoning is key to achieving a crispy crust.
  • Adjust the cayenne pepper and sriracha amounts to suit your preferred spice level.
  • Ensure the skillet is hot before adding the salmon to prevent sticking and to create a good sear.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary for even cooking and crispiness.
  • Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
  • Garnishes like green onions, sesame seeds, or cilantro add freshness and visual appeal.
