Ingredients

Scale

For the Flatbread:

  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1.5 tbsp olive oil (extra virgin, e.g., Colavita)
  • 1 naan flatbread

For the Toppings:

  • 1 tomato (thinly sliced into rounds)
  • 2 pinches salt
  • 2 pinches black pepper
  • 5 to 6 large fresh basil leaves (torn before serving)
  • 3 slices fresh mozzarella (thinly sliced)

For the Balsamic Drizzle:

  • 1.5 tbsp balsamic vinegar (reduced to a thicker glaze)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Garlic Oil Mixture: Press or mince 3 fresh garlic cloves and combine them with 1.5 tablespoons of olive oil to create a fragrant garlic oil. This mixture will add rich flavor to the flatbread.
  2. Crisp Up the Flatbread: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush half of the garlic oil mixture evenly over the surface of the naan flatbread. Place the flatbread on a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes to gently crisp the base and infuse it with garlic flavor.
  3. Add Cheese and Tomatoes: Remove the flatbread from the oven and layer the 3 slices of fresh mozzarella evenly over it. Lightly sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Then arrange the thin tomato slices over the cheese and season again with salt and pepper. Return the flatbread to the oven and bake for another 5 minutes.
  4. Broil to Finish: After the second baking, switch your oven to broil. Place the flatbread under the broiler for 2 to 3 minutes to melt the cheese further and achieve a slight golden brown finish. Watch closely to avoid burning.
  5. Prepare the Balsamic Drizzle: While the flatbread is baking, mix the remaining half of the garlic oil mixture with 1.5 tablespoons of reduced balsamic vinegar until well combined into a smooth emulsion for drizzling.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove the flatbread from the oven once edges are golden. Drizzle the balsamic glaze evenly over the top. Scatter the freshly torn basil leaves for a burst of freshness. Slice the flatbread and serve warm for best flavor.

Notes

  • Use fresh garlic for the best aromatic flavor in the oil.
  • Thinly slicing the tomato and mozzarella ensures even melting and balanced flavor.
  • Keep a close eye when broiling to avoid over-browning or burning the cheese.
  • You can reduce balsamic vinegar by simmering it gently until it thickens if not using a pre-reduced glaze.
  • Serve immediately while warm to enjoy the full melty cheese experience.
