Ingredients

Scale

Sauce Ingredients

  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup hoisin sauce
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Main Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • pounds boneless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • ½ onion, sliced
  • 10 oz fresh green beans
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the honey, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, crushed red pepper, salt, and pepper. Set this sauce mixture aside.
  2. Prepare the chicken: Cut the boneless chicken breast into bite-sized pieces to ensure even cooking and easy eating.
  3. Cook the chicken and onions: Heat the canola oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces along with the sliced onions. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and starts to brown, about 6-8 minutes.
  4. Cook the green beans: Add the fresh green beans and ¼ cup water to the skillet. Cover with a lid, reduce the heat to medium, and let everything cook for about 5 minutes until the green beans are tender-crisp.
  5. Add the sauce: Pour the prepared honey hoisin sauce over the chicken and green beans. Stir well to coat all the ingredients evenly. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce is heated through and slightly thickened.
  6. Serve: Serve the flavorful Honey Hoisin Green Bean Chicken hot, ideally over steamed rice for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Use fresh green beans for the best texture and flavor; frozen green beans can be substituted but may be softer.
  • Adjust the crushed red pepper quantity to control the spice level according to your preference.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can dissolve 1 teaspoon of cornstarch in 1 tablespoon of water and add it during the sauce cooking step.
  • This dish pairs exceptionally well with jasmine or basmati rice.
  • Canola oil is used for its neutral flavor and high smoke point, but vegetable or peanut oil can also be used.
