Meatloaf Mixture
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
- 1 cup finely chopped mushrooms
- 4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Ketchup Glaze
- 1/2 cup ketchup (for topping)
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the meatloaf.
- Cook Bacon: In a skillet, cook the 4 slices of bacon until crispy. Once done, crumble the bacon into small pieces and set aside.
- Sauté Onions and Mushrooms: Using the same skillet, sauté the finely chopped onions and mushrooms until they are softened and fragrant. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, grated Parmesan cheese, crumbled bacon, shredded Swiss cheese, sautéed onions and mushrooms.
- Add Seasonings and Eggs: Add the eggs, Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon ketchup, garlic powder, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper to the meat mixture. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Shape Meatloaf: Shape the meat mixture into a loaf shape and place it into a greased baking dish to ensure easy removal after baking.
- Apply Ketchup Glaze: Spread the remaining 1/2 cup of ketchup evenly over the top of the meatloaf, which will create a tangy, flavorful glaze as it bakes.
- Bake: Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) to ensure it is fully cooked and safe to eat.
- Rest: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes. This helps the juices redistribute, making the meatloaf moist and easier to slice.
- Serve: Slice the meatloaf and serve warm. Enjoy your delicious Mushroom Swiss Cheese Meatloaf!
Notes
- Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature for safe cooking.
- For an extra smoky flavor, you can use smoked bacon.
- You can substitute ground turkey for a leaner option, but cooking time may vary.
- Letting the meatloaf rest before slicing helps retain its juices.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
