Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough Balls

  • 2 cans (16 oz total) refrigerated biscuit dough, cut into quarters
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup mini pepperoni slices (or chopped pepperoni)

For the Garlic Butter Coating

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

For Assembly and Serving

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup marinara sauce (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a bundt pan or a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal.
  2. Prepare Dough Balls: Flatten each biscuit piece slightly. Place a small pinch of shredded mozzarella and a couple of pepperoni slices in the center, then fold and pinch the edges securely to form a sealed ball to keep the filling inside during baking.
  3. Make Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter with minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and optional red pepper flakes. This mixture will infuse the bread with robust flavor and a hint of spice.
  4. Coat Dough Balls: Toss the stuffed dough balls thoroughly in the garlic butter mixture ensuring each ball is well coated, which adds moisture and flavor while baking.
  5. Assemble in Pan: Layer half of the dough balls evenly in the greased pan. Sprinkle half of the grated Parmesan cheese over them. Repeat this layering with the remaining dough balls and the rest of the Parmesan cheese to create a cheesy top crust.
  6. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes until the monkey bread is golden brown and cooked through. This ensures a perfect balance of crispy outer dough and melty inside.
  7. Cool & Serve: Let the monkey bread cool in the pan for about 5 minutes to set. Then, invert it onto a serving plate. Serve warm alongside the marinara sauce for dipping, making it perfect for sharing and dipping.

Notes

  • Add other pizza toppings such as diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or cooked sausage inside the dough balls for extra flavor variation.
  • If refrigerated biscuit dough is unavailable, pizza dough cut into small pieces can be a suitable substitute.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for 10 minutes to refresh.
