4.5 from 105 reviews

This recipe for quick and fluffy flatbreads is perfect for when you want fresh bread in just 10 minutes. Using simple ingredients like all-purpose flour, yogurt, and baking powder, these flatbreads come together quickly and cook on the stovetop to a golden brown finish. They are soft, flavorful, and ideal for serving warm with butter or your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

Scale

Flatbread Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (480 grams)
  • 1 cup yogurt (220 grams)
  • 250 milliliters clear water (about 3/4 cup)
  • 10 grams baking powder (one package)
  • 8 grams salt (one teaspoon)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (15 milliliters)

For Cooking & Serving

  • 3.5 tsp avocado oil (50 milliliters) – used for oiling hands or surface if needed, though not required in skillet
  • Butter for brushing cooked flatbreads

Instructions

  1. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, water, and baking powder. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and fully combined, ensuring an even base for the dough.
  2. Add Dry Ingredients and Knead: Gradually incorporate the flour, salt, and vegetable oil into the wet mixture. Gently knead just until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to over-knead to keep the bread tender and fluffy.
  3. Shape Dough Balls: Divide the dough into 10 equal portions. Cover them with a cloth or plastic wrap to prevent drying. Roll each dough ball into a disc approximately the size of a dessert plate, preparing them for cooking.
  4. Cook the Flatbreads: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place one flattened dough disc onto the skillet. Cook for several minutes on one side until golden brown spots appear, then flip once and cook the other side until similarly golden and cooked through. No oil is needed in the skillet.
  5. Finish and Serve: Once each flatbread is cooked, brush it generously with butter while still warm for extra flavor. Serve immediately and enjoy the soft, fluffy texture of these quick flatbreads.

Notes

  • For additional flavor, sprinkle garlic powder, dried herbs, or your favorite seasonings onto the flatbreads before cooking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet or oven before serving.
  • These flatbreads are best enjoyed fresh but can also be frozen for longer storage.
