Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs (about 16 full crackers)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks), softened
  • 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs

Filling and Topping

  • 7 ounces marshmallow creme or fluff
  • 3 4.4 ounce Hershey’s chocolate bars, or 2 ½ cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the flour, graham cracker crumbs, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a separate large bowl, cream the softened butter and light brown sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy, approximately 2 minutes, using a mixer.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  5. Combine Mixtures: Reduce mixer speed to low and gradually add the dry flour mixture, mixing until just combined to form the dough.
  6. Press Dough Base: Press half of the dough mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan, creating a solid base layer.
  7. Spread Marshmallow Creme: Dollop the marshmallow creme on top of the dough base. Gently spread into an even layer. If the creme is sticky, dip your spoon in hot water and shake off excess to ease spreading.
  8. Add Chocolate Layer: Break the Hershey’s chocolate bars into pieces or sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the marshmallow layer.
  9. Top with Remaining Dough: Place small pieces of the remaining dough over the chocolate layer, flattening them out to create an even top crust as much as possible.
  10. Bake: Bake the assembled bars in the preheated oven for 28-32 minutes or until the top is golden brown and set.
  11. Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares and serving. This ensures clean slices and the bars hold together.

Notes

  • Marshmallow Creme: Avoid substituting with regular marshmallows, as they will dissolve completely during baking.
  • Freezing Instructions: Line the pan with parchment paper before baking. Once baked and cooled, lift the bars out using the parchment, wrap tightly with plastic wrap and aluminum foil, and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw fully before serving.
