Ingredients

Scale

Base Layer

  • 1 box (13.7 oz) Club Crackers

Caramel Layers

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter
  • 1/4 cup milk

Topping

  • 1 bag (12 oz) milk chocolate chips (about 2 cups)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with tin foil and spray the bottom and sides with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Create the Cracker Layer: Arrange Club crackers in a single layer to cover the bottom of the pan, breaking some crackers as needed to fill in gaps.
  3. Make the Caramel Mixture: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, salted butter, and milk. Stir continuously until the butter melts completely. Increase heat to medium-high and continue to cook and stir constantly for 5 minutes until the mixture boils and thickens slightly.
  4. Layer the Caramel and Crackers: Pour one-third of the hot caramel over the cracker layer, spreading it evenly. Repeat this process two more times, so you have three layers of caramel separated by crackers, finishing with a caramel layer on top.
  5. Melt the Chocolate: Place the milk chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  6. Apply the Chocolate Topping: Pour the melted chocolate evenly over the top caramel layer and spread smoothly. Optional: sprinkle Christmas sprinkles or toffee pieces on top for decoration.
  7. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the bars for at least 2 hours until set. Use the foil overhang to lift the bars from the pan and cut into small squares. Bars will soften at room temperature; store any leftovers covered in the fridge.

Notes

  • Ensure to stir the caramel constantly during cooking to prevent burning.
  • Use salted butter to balance the sweetness and enhance flavor.
  • The bars must be refrigerated to set properly but soften nicely when left at room temperature for a short time before serving.
  • For added texture and decoration, top with sprinkles or toffee bits.
  • Store bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
